Kara Mayer Mayfield

President

Kara is a Principal of Texas Star Alliance and owner of her consulting company, Mayercorp, Inc. She works on a myriad of issues, but her primary focus is working on rural affairs and issues impacting rural communities throughout Texas.  Other policy areas she works on include economic development, tax incentives, small business development, banking, agriculture, border security, law enforcement, municipal and county initiatives, local grassroot issues and creating collaborative opportunities for her clients.  She specializes in association work and coalition building.

She has spent over 15 years growing associations and forming collaborative partnerships.  During this time, she has developed a niche for these organizations and the problems they face.  She has discovered a way to grow organizations and associations through collaboration with other partners to maximize the output for that association.  Thereby creating a full staff environment and team for these organizations, which allows them to be on an equal playing field with larger entities.

Her previous work experience includes over six years of service with U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul, past Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security.  She served as his Deputy Chief of Staff while managing all state matters for the Congressman and his district.  During her tenure she was promoted from Director of Field Operations to District Director and ultimately to Deputy Chief of Staff.  In that position, she was responsible for handling the day-to-day business that arose within the nine counties of CD-10 spanning from Houston to Austin.  Her experience encompasses over 15 years of work within the public sector ranging from the U.S. Senate to the U.S. House of Representatives to the Texas State Legislature.

Kara began her career with U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison working both in Washington D.C. and in Austin.  She then moved over to the private sector where she worked with TechNet Texas and was responsible for facilitating membership recruitment and state legislative matters for the high-tech industry.  She worked within the Texas House of Representatives for the Committee on Public Education serving as a policy analyst and counsel during the 79th Regular Session and First and Second Called Special Sessions.  She was responsible for scrubbing legislation in order to allow favorable passage of bills out of the House Public Education Committee and ultimately out of the Texas House.

Kara is a licensed attorney with the State of Texas and holds a Doctor of Jurisprudence from South Texas College of Law with an undergraduate degree from The University of Texas at Austin; she possesses a BA in Government and a minor in Business.  She previously practiced law in Dallas, Fort Worth and Houston.  Kara was born and raised in the Dallas / Fort Worth area and now resides outside of Austin.  She is very involved in her local community, she is married, and her husband is a secondary school teacher and coach; they have one child.

Choosing Kara Mayer Mayfield for the leadership of the Association of Rural Communities in Texas has been the best decision the Board has ever made.

I have been blessed to work with her during her entire tenure as our Executive Director, and as this year’s President of ARCIT, I have directly seen how important her guidance and organizational skills are for our increasing growth and relevance for rural Texans.

She is very responsive and intuitive of the needs of our diverse group, working perfectly with the Board and our hundreds of members, making sure our voices are heard in Austin.

Kara and the Mayercorp team have brought an unparalleled level of professionalism to the organization, coupled with their extensive legislative experience and many contacts across the country, the State of Texas, and the numerous state and federal agencies.

I would highly recommend Mayercorp, Inc. to any organization or group with the need for out-of-the-box thinking and desire for taking your organization to the next level!
